BAAHBaa Beer Week 2012

Ladies and Gentlemen of the beer guzzling kind - yes, all the SF beer lovers readied themselves to move their belts back a few notches and lifted their pint glass in unison for an entire week dedicated to all things hoppy, fermented, and frothy!

Beer week has officially come and gone and everyone made sure to act quick before the taps ran dry. Actually, I wish we would've acted a bit quicker on the day we decided to join the hopped up celebration...

I do enjoy drinking beer very much however, it's definitely not my drink of choice but, festival is my pastime of choice so I naturally jumped at the chance to partake in the week long celebration.  My friends and I attended the Beer and Chocolate Festival in Richmond (no not Inner Richmond, actual Richmond, yes, the "I've never even heard of somewhere so far out of the city" Richmond...don't ask).  Anyway, we find ourselves taking several legs of BART and free shuttles and FINALLY get to the giant warehouse on the water that holds the Beer and Chocolate Festival each year.

Boy am I glad we made the hike, my only regret was that we did not come sooner! Sadly, the taps were running dry, and the slew of sluggy beer monsters were wearily waiting in lines that stretched and curled throughout the tent filled warehouse, for one last taste of local brew.

The festival was filled with not only local brewmiesters but, local chocloatiers came to satisfy the crowds sweet cravings with deliciously cream treats that tasted exceptionally ah-mazing followed by a big swig of amber ale.

Splitting Head: Jobs, Not Liking Jobs, Analyzing Not Liking Jobs with A Random Head Image

What Now Mother Dearest?
(Not actual artwork title...don't know original name. Feel free to enter if you know it!)
compliments of http://yourhipstergirlfriend.tumblr.com/ (such a blissful site)

So, this is basically what our heads feel like or maybe look like, doesn’t it? Well, that is if you’re experiencing a joblife crisis, heavy weighing job related conundrum, or how our good friends The Rolling Stones put it (and yes, sadly or not so sadly afterwards Ms. Spears), you simply are internally saying, “I can’t get no, satisfactactttioon”about your desk and chair daytime life.

Well, this little issue seems to be popping up all over the place in SF at the moment.  Sure, there are TONS in fact, HEAPS if you will, people that love waking up every morning to their alarm and striding out the door to what will be another promising day in the office.  They will be inspired, create something wonderful, or even seal that damn deal! I have awe and many “we are not worthy” praise for said individuals and please keep that spring in your step because you are one of the lucky ones!

The reason I am blogging about this particular piece of artwork (might I add is coming to eyeballs from the oh so edgy, not too sketchy blog http://yourhipstergirlfriend.tumblr.com/) is for its fragmented diversity and eerie complexion.  Plus, it really does seem like a good image for what the mind does when in a state of ambiguity.

I like to take a look at the image piece by piece, facial part by facial part.  Starting with the web constellation like nose, mouth, eyes, and of course the forehead.  Now, these images could be how someone starting to feel when wanting to pursue a different path, they can almost form it with their lips and sense it with their nose.  On the other hand, this is may just be talk and really they can’t see exactly where they want to go which is why her eyes and the top thinking part of her brain are not fully filled, just lines attempting to make a solidified image.  Just like when my good friend is trying to figure her next move, it's just lines at this moment stretching out in all directions blindly looking for it's counter parts to help piece and connect it together.

Now, inside is a complete jumble.  Places you want to go, jobs that won’t or will allow you to go there. You want to reach big for that dream job like the dream castle she’s envisioning, it’s a long shot but, it’s their occupying your mind.

Finally, the rest, the vegetation may be a part of what has grown on her what is creeping up into her mind making her doubt or struggle with the current state of her career.  The creeping ivy and dense foliage is becoming a shadow and soon she could be stuck in there if she doesn’t construct and then act on a way out.

The best thing you can do is take steps away from that shadow and trust that you’ll take care of yourself at the end of the day. At least, that's what we try to tell ourselves right?

What do you see in this picture? Please, do tell...leave us a comment if you like or if you have an opinion countering or if you despise this blog entry and it's loopyness.

And this is the best, when you’re feeling infuriated by watching all those latte sipping, black framed glasses wearing, half shaved head sporting, folks sitting pretty in local organic fair trade equal rights rainbow friendly coffee shops looking happy as a clam clicking away on their shinny mac books* just think about this, puts things in a nice perspective–

Summertime in the Winter: The Northern Hemisphere's Stubborn Endeavor to be More Like His Sister the Southern Hemisphere

Julanuary 2012
Barbie and Ken spending some them time, hangin out with their furry tree friend under a very blue sky.  Golden Gate Park, San Franpsycho

The Pole Wanderer and some other interesting theories behind our little extended summerfest - not that any one is complaining about it...maybe everyone besides mother nature that is oh and the die-hard snow people...

"True polar wander is a solid-body rotation of a planet or moon with respect to its spin axis, causing the geographic locations of the North and South Poles to change, or "wander". In a stable state, the largest moments of inertia axis is aligned with the spin axis, with the smaller two moment of inertia axes lying in the plane of the equator. When this is not the case, true polar wander will occur: the planet or moon will rotate as a rigid body to realign the largest moment of inertia axis with the spin axis. (yes from wiki don't sue me...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_polar_wander)"

I certainly like the sound of the poles just taking off on their slippery little legs to explore what the other half of their body looks like!

Even though it sounds intriguing, apparently this pole gallivanting could have very serious side effects, one of them being drastic temp changes.  Luckily, according to Geophysicist Ronald Merrill, hosted last year by the good Mr. Ira Flatow, on his wonderfully mind beefing NPR segment, Science Friday, "the last time was 780,000 years ago. And during that reversal, which took about four or five thousand years, the intensity never went to zero. So some of the disasters that you see portrayed in TV and movies are not accurate" (which I think we all knew anyways right? Right?)

This is just one of the theories lurking around causing chaos.  Not to mention, this theory (like several theories of it's kind) is followed with much criticism and doubt as the potential cause behind our extended summa daze.  Still, pretty interesting to mull over in your mind though!

If this bit of rambling perked your ears please, listen (or read) to this entire episode of Science Friday "Following A Wandering Pole"
